Action Adventure Novels

Rappahannockbooks.com offers action adventure novels by R. Leland Waldrip. The Last Grizzly, the first of his action novels, is an outdoor adventure about an aggressive grizzly born in Yellowstone that creates havoc in the Park, then later continues his errant ways on a southward migration into the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. Elk hunters do not expect to see grizzly bears in Colorado, and these men are especially surprised at such rampant aggression. This book offers a great experience for anyone who loves action adventure novels about the outdoors. It brings the natural world of grizzly bears and of men into the focus of Mr. Waldrip's considerable attention to detail in such a way that transports the reader right into the story. Action adventure novels abound, but this is one for your permanent list.

The category of science fiction action adventure novels got a major boost when Mr. Waldrip wrote this novel. You will be thrilled to put it on your list. Anasazi Harvest, a science fiction action adventure masterpiece, is another milestone on Mr. Waldrip's growing list of action adventure novels. This one explores modern alien visitations among the spiritual descendants of the Anasazi Indians, also known as Old Ones, or Ancient Ones, a Native American tribe that lived in the Four Corners area of New Mexico circa 1200. A Navajo guide with roots associated with the Anasazi of Chaco Canyon is caught in a struggle between alien forces at war over the Anasazi Native American genetic heritage in and around the small town of Farmington. The author pulls the reader into a wonderful world of sparse water and wooded mesas, imparts a feeling of "being there" through his vivid descriptions of the flora and fauna, and the non-stop actions of his very memorable characters.

You will certainly put this modern tale in your list of great action adventure novels. In fact, the term gets new meaning with this book. Vigilante Virus is a medical drama that explores obsessions of Dr. Marcus Peterson that lead to his becoming a vigilante. In this action adventure, the prominent micro-biologist exploits the characteristics of viral mumps and smallpox to develop a biological weapon which he intends for tightly controlled, limited use by only one person--him. He structures a master plan to use the bio-agent against sexual predators, child abusers, child molesters, wife-beaters and the like--men with testosterone levels in excess of their ability to exercise self-control. Having perfected the agent, Dr. Peterson uses his research skills to locate a target sex offender, then at the right moment pounces to deliver an injection of the hybrid virus. It is, in fact, a master plan, but he has no clue that his actions will open a Pandora's Box of trouble--trouble for himself, his family and the world at large.  Action adventure at its best.

GRIZ Nightmare, an outdoor action adventure sequel to The Last Grizzly, was completed in late 2000. Jim Wilson has post-trauma stress syndrome as a result of a grizzly attack five years earlier. He joins an elk hunting party to enjoy camping in grizzly country and to face his fear of the great bears, only to have his plans jettisoned as escaped convicts hijack his party. The lives of friends become dependent on Jim being able to quickly overcome his phobia. He soon learns that nightmares can be far worse than those dreamed about grizzly bears. Readers have given the thumbs-up signal for this book, one of Mr. Waldrip's best action adventure novels so far.
